ABOUT US

YESTERDAY,

TODAY, & TOMORROW

Mission Agape began its operations in 2008 as a collaboration between various groups from the Korean-American community in Duluth. Over time, the organization has grown and received 501c3 Charity Status in 2012. Mission Agape is an independent organization and does not have any affiliation with a particular religion or denomination.

Volunteers from different backgrounds join the organization, and they all share the motto of "Through many backgrounds, we are one family." Over the years, Mission Agape has sponsored various causes and activities while focusing on its core missions. In 2010, the organization mobilized to aid the response efforts for the Haitian earthquake.

The President of Mission Agape, James Song, led an effort to support Philippine children and schools, and the organization sponsored activities in Panama. Presently, Mission Agape supports global outreach efforts in Peru and South Korea, and in 2013, the organization initiated a prison support ministry at the Smith State Prison in Savannah, Georgia. In 2017, the ministry was transitioned to the Ware State Prison in Waycross, Georgia. Mission Agape's key focus areas include its Food Program, Prison Support, Love Jacket, and global outreach. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Mission Agape remained active, albeit at a reduced scale.

The organization provided masks and hand sanitizers to its core mission partners, and though hot Sunday meals were curtailed due to social distancing, sandwiches were distributed on Saturdays. Moving forward, Mission Agape aims to emerge from the pandemic with a renewed sense of purpose and re-energize its service to the community.

The organization plans to revive its homeless hot meal program, re-initiate or re-imagine its coat program, and resume its engagement with the Ware State Prison program. Additionally, Mission Agape hopes to expand its Peru outreach to the capital city of Lima.
